 Project Objective: The main objective is to test a singular system/services in
the field of Remote care and eInclusion, with commercial and social interest for
those areas in which the Living Labs participating operate, in order to analyze
interoperability, acceptance, feasibility and possibility of developing a business
model.
 Innovative aspects:
 To implement a supra-network of environments in which it could be easy to
test services for monitoring people at their daily environment.
 Homogenize the requirements to deploy the service in terms of standards,
protocols and base technology, as well as European requirements.
 Creation of a common database of knowledge about behavior of people in
restricted circumstances, allowing to simulate situations not available in the
real life.
 Access to different value chain with different market approaches

Living Labs for user-driven open innovation

Citizens - Ever wanted to influence future technologies?
Companies and SMEs - Ever wanted to access larger or more varied markets?
Researchers - Ever dreamt of bringing revolutionary technological breakthroughs closer to the 'man on the street'?

As a user-driven open innovation system, Living Labs speeds up the innovation process by addressing the user's needs.

Through partnerships between citizens, businesses and public authorities, the Living Labs model allows people and industries to test tomorrow's best innovations in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT).

The Living  Labs model includes end-user participation from an early stage of the creative process of technology development. As a result, evaluating aspects such as social and economic implications of new technologies has become more accurate. So the needs of users are better listened to and fulfilled.

1. CONTEXT
In the Communication “More Research and Innovation - Investing for Growth and
Employment: A Common Approach”1, the Commission stresses that “networking within
clusters and across complementary clusters is a key factor for their successful
development”. It further emphasises the potential of innovative services in view of their
“increased importance for the European economy”. Finally, it also points to ecoinnovation
as one of the main fields that can provide large opportunities in terms of
wealth creation and growth sustainability, by stating that “Eco-Innovation, including
methods to boost energy efficiency, has great potential for creating competitive
advantages for European enterprises”.
Furthermore, in the Communication “Putting knowledge into practice: A broad-based
innovation strategy for the EU”2, the European Commission stresses the importance of a
sectoral and thematic approach to foster innovation, proposed the service sector as a
priority action and proposed “eco-innovation as an area offering promising prospects for
the emergence of an innovation friendly lead-market”. The Council concluded on this
Communication that practical co-operation between clusters should be stimulated.3
In line with the aforementioned Communications, the European Commission adopted a
Communication on “A lead market initiative for Europe”4, that aims at enhancing the
quick take-up of innovations by concerted action of public authorities to establish
favourable market conditions. Six potential lead market areas have been identified for an

Open Health forum conference 10 December 2008 - 11 December 2008 Brussels,
Belgium Through a number of concrete examples experts in the field will outline how eHealth can support healthcare systems in providing better care to European citizens. It is suggested that the discussion of the working group takes note of the importance of technology to the health sector (and vice-versa) and of the need to evaluate how investment in technology translates into concrete health benefits.

The University of Iceland was established 17^th June 1911, on the centenary of the national hero of Iceland, 19^th century Icelandic statesman Jón Sigurðsson, usually referred to as "president". The University of Iceland offers nearly four hundred undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. The university is organised into five academic schools, and 25 faculties.
