- Study on privacy and trust in the ubiquitous information society - 2007/S 200-242289- Study on privacy and trust in the ubiquitous information society
The European Commission's Information Society and Media DG has published a call for tenders for a study on privacy and trust in the ubiquitous information society.
Effective protection of personal data and privacy is a necessary precondition for users' trust and confidence when using the possibilities and tools of the information society. In order to trust the complex system enabling web transactions enough to use it, the user must have confidence that all parties involved comply with a set of reasonable rules, not only relating to data protection and privacy, but to an acceptable business practice in a more general sense.
The concept of the 'Ubiquitous information society' builds on the convergence of communication, media and information technology and their integration into everyday life and business. The overall objectives of the study are the following:
- create an overview and analysis of existing research and publications on possible effects of more ambient information and communication technology (ICT) use on privacy and trust,
- identify challenges for privacy and data protection and for trust and confidence,
- describe possible responses,
- determine options for a policy response at EU level,
- develop indicators to assess different policy options.

- Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP)- General information on the LLP
A SINGLE UMBRELLA FOR EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAMMES
The European Commission has integrated its various educational and training initiatives under a single umbrella, the Lifelong Learning Programme. With a significant budget of nearly EUR 7 billion for 2007 to 2013, the new programme replaces the existing education, vocational training and e-Learning programmes, which ended in 2006.
The new Lifelong Learning Programme enables individuals at all stages of their lives to pursue stimulating learning opportunities across Europe. It consists of four sub-programmes: Comenius (for schools), Erasmus (for higher education), Leonardo da Vinci (for vocational education and training) and Grundtvig (for adult education).
A transversal programme complements these four sub-programmes in order to ensure that they achieve the best results. Four key activities focus on policy co-operation, languages, information and communication technologies, effective dissemination and exploitation of project results.
Finally, the Jean Monnet programme stimulates teaching, reflection and debate on the European integration process at higher education institutions worldwide.
As regards the four sectoral programmes, quantified targets have been set in order to ensure a significant, identifiable and measurable impact for the programme. These targets are as follows:

The Specific Programme 'Cooperation' will be open to the participation of countries who have entered a research cooperation agreement with the European Union. It will also be open to the participation of entities from third countries and of international organisations for scientific cooperation.Short title: Specific Programme 'Cooperation' - Lifelong Learning Programme - Call for Proposals 2008-
