Maximising Health Benefits for Citizens through New Technologies workshop at the EU Open Health forum conference

2008-12-10 00:00
Maximising Health Benefits for Citizens through New Technologies workshop at the EU Open Health forum conference 10 December 2008 - 11 December 2008 Brussels, Belgium Through a number of concrete examples experts in the field will outline how eHealth can support healthcare systems in providing better care to European citizens. It is suggested that the discussion of the working group takes note of the importance of technology to the health sector (and vice-versa) and of the need to evaluate how investment in technology translates into concrete health benefits. Adapting to climate change via ICT-enabled response to emergencies
Title: Workshop 07B12 - Adapting to climate change via ICT-enabled response to emergencies

Chair: Barbas, Antonios
Maloney, Colette - Monteiro, Manuel
Organisers: European Commission, Information Society & Media Directorate-General (DG INFSO)
Themes: Theme B - Sustainable development: Regional responses to climate change

Speakers: Couturier, Martine - Gricar, Joze - Harmer, Dave - Reix, Claire-Anne - Simon, Patrice - Weets, Guy
Location: European Commission, Centre Borschette CCAB 1C
Date: 07/10/2008 [14:30-16:15]
Brief:
Adapting to climate change in Europe, reinforcing the Union’s disaster response capacity, preventing natural and man-made disasters, and protecting citizens better against disaster risks by strengthening early warning systems, are now policy matters of high priority. Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can dramatically improve the operations of emergency/civil protection agencies which have distinct legacy systems and depend largely on voice communication practices. There is also an increasing demand for reliable forecasting or prevention of riskprone conditions, launch of early warning systems and ICT-enabled preparedness strategies for timely interventions and cost-efficient resource management. Pilot
validations in urban and regional settings of emerging information exchange protocols and crisis communication technologies, permit interoperability in
operations between control rooms and field personnel as well as between the various agencies called for action after an incident.

Citizen Services for Borderless Healthcare in the European Union: eHealth Conference - 9Sep08 in Kiel, Germany

2008-09-09 00:00

Workshop eHealth at the "eHealth Conference 2008":

"Citizen Services for Borderless Healthcare in the European Union:
Current Situation - Vision – Solutions"

9th September 2008, 9:00 – 12:00 h

Travelling abroad for pleasure, education, or work has become a natural part of life for many European citizens. Products and services can be bought in another Member State when the need arises, but obtaining healthcare outside their residence country is still problematic for most European citizens. The workshop focuses on concrete steps towards improving pan-European healthcare provision and on policy needs to accelerate European integration also in this field so close to the daily needs of many European citizens. It is organised by the TEN4Health project which is funded by the European Commission. The TEN4Health project contributes towards improved healthcare provision for mobile European Union citizens. Initiated by leading public health insurance providers, the TEN4Health service package assures access of citizens to healthcare in participating Member States’ hospitals, based on a secure web service and its integration into developing European eHealth infrastructure networks. The workshop is addressed to all interested in realising an integrated European health services market, in sharing visions, experience and opportunities for cooperation.

AAL Policy Workshop in Brussels on 25-26 September 2008

2008-09-25 00:00
2008-09-26 00:00

AAL Policy Workshop in Brussels on 25-26 September 2008
The Joint AAL Association / AALIANCE Workshop on Ambient Assisted Living Policy in
Europe (co-organised with the European Commission) will be held in
Brussels on 25-26 September 2008.

The goal of this workshop is to create a comprehensive vision of the R&D and policy needs for ambient assisted living technologies and to suggest strategies that may serve as a roadmap for industry, service providers, academia and policy makers. An intensive exchange of ideas
shall support the building of a AAL community that may gather as project consortia in the future.
The workshop will consist of keynote speeches and four consecutive round table discussions, each opened by dedicated impulse speakers:
- Older people at home
- Aging in Society
- Aging at Work
- AAL Community building

Experts are asked to prepare short statements on different aspects of ambient assisted living technology trends in the different user domains, social-institutional aspects and R&D support and AAL community building.
In order to ensure a high intensity of discussion, participation in this workshop will be limited to a total of about 80 persons.
Interested experts are asked to apply for participation (including a description of their proposed contribution) on the AALIANCE website.
Experts will be carefully selected based on the relevance of their announced contribution to the discussion on the workshop topic and taking into account the importance of their attendance for the workshop goal.
